Adobe And It's Modernization Of Performance Management: Alternatives To The Annual Performance Review Meeting
Adobe Moves From Ratings, Employee Rankings To More Efficient and Effective Way To Manage Performance
Adobe is a huge company, well known with great brand recognition, so when it moved from its atrocious rating and ranking method for managing performance, a great deal of publicity has ensued, since 2012. And for good reason. They moved from the absolute WORST method, using forced rankings based on cumulative ratings, which is a completely invalid way of handling ratings mathematically, to a much less informal way of doing things, and by doing so, saved thousands of hours of both employee, HR, and management time.
Because the company is so large, and the changes are likely to impact on what other companies are doing, at least eventually, we've set up this page where you'll find various articles on Adobe's changes, their progress and their success.
Often, it's unfair to say that one company may become the model for the future, since in many cases, it's not possible for OTHER companies to copy, but in this case, my assessment is that any company can make these changes.
It's worth noting that the new approach resembles almost exactly, our own model, The Hooper-Bacal model of performance management which is explained here. It was "in place" as far back as 1990.
