Much of how we go about reviewing employees comes from an era (let's say the sixties and seventies) when most work was simple, manufacturing and goods oriented. In this century, though most of us are in the service and knowledge work kinds of industries, and the old ways, and the old relatioships between employer and employee have changed.
Sadly, how we plan and evaluate employee performance hasn't evolved well, despite efforts such as 360 degree feedback, and massive automation.
